Short stories and vignettes that each tell an isolated tale with frozen fables, tilted meanings, and subdermal feelings that prickle with deeper meaning. Born in the sparks of inspiration and then hand‑picked to entertain, unsettle, and amuse. Every piece is a window. A blind. A lock. Some open gently. Some shatter the realities you thought you knew. Do you dare turn the key and discover what lies behind the broken myths? Short Story Dark Fantasy Not for children under 13. © William James 2026. Introduction

There is nothing more beautiful to a writer than the act of creation. There is nothing more exciting to a reader than leafing open the weight of old tomes and laying your gaze upon the words.

But the words are lost, their key misplaced while the memories fade over time. All that remains are the fragments that slip through the cracks, teasing the warmth of our soul with the cold, dead fingers of forbidden realms.

I must warn you, traveller of diction, while your eyes may linger for only a moment, these words will burn themselves forever into your mind's eye. There is a reason why the key is lost and the mirror broken. Some tales were meant to be forgotten.

Over the years I have written hundreds of literary experiments to dip my toes in the inkwell. These pieces have been handpicked to tell a story, deepen an idea, or simply invoke a feeling. Some represent the raw spark of stories that are yet to hatch and stretch into full form. However, if you show a particular love for any one story, then I may yet be spurred on to write it. I hope you have as much fun reading as I did writing.
