The City of Fairies and the Battle of Shadows

Targaria was a distinct realm immersed in pure magic that stemmed from the ageless tree of life rooted at the apex of the realm, surrounded by the most impressive formidable castle of gold in the history of architecture. The castle of Targaria was built with a foreign component, a magical gold that made the castle almost impenetrable to any external threatening force, and this wasn't the only unique trait that made Targaria a special realm. Nope, Targaria was famous for its magic and beautiful mystical creatures who possessed magic of their own, but drew their essence from the powerful tree of life. Targaria was crawling with different fairies whose color depicts the magic they possessed. The white fairies with beautiful glassy wings were known as the Water Fairies and controlled life within the water. They made sure the water sources never ran out, and there were plenty of fishes to feed the realm. Jewels like rubies, emeralds, and sapphires were mined by them to cater for the realm's lavish lifestyle. Then there were the Forest Fairies, lush and green in nature. They spotted dainty green sparkling wings and were responsible for the forest as their name depicted. They made sure the foliage, trees, fruits, and flowers were in full bloom, and had the gift to nurture. Their duty was to ensure the forestry of Targaria remained lush and healthy. The Earth Fairies were sturdy little creatures who were brown in nature and mined the lands for minerals that enriched the lives of Targaria. They had earthy-colored wings and were regarded as the "uglies" because of their serious, no-nonsense nature. The Blue Fairies were the most crucial of all fairies because of their responsibility to the throne and the tree of life. They were known for their dedication, magical strength, and agility, and were responsible for nurturing the Tree of Life and protecting their ultimate Queen of Fairies, Reina. They were a steady group divided into two sections, one of which protected the Tree of Life and prevented any external dark forces from sensing and getting close enough to steal the ethereal seed that powers the tree. These fairies had crystal icy wings that shot daggers at anyone not permitted close to the tree. The other section of the blue fairies were known as the guardians of the Queen and realm. They were ruthless and swift in carrying out their duty, and wavering was foreign to them. They had sky blue wings with shades of sparkling black tainting the tips of their wings. These fairies worked tirelessly each day, under the wise, blissful reign of Queen Reina.

Targaria, wasn't only known as a sanctuary for fairies, its doors were opened to any magical being looking for a safe abode to live and start afresh. They were allowed to be themselves with no prejudice as long as they stick by the rules. Targaria became a home to other mystical creatures like dwarfs, elves, goblins among others. However, it had one major detestable thorn at its side. A prickly thorn that threatened the peace and safety of the realm; the Thorians of Avala, a shadowy kingdom steeped in rots and evil. The Thorians were a mischievous rival clan who dabbled in dark magic and whose sole purpose was to steal the Seed of life and plunge Targaria into a cloud of ruins, eliminating all and sundry. They were envious of the enchanted beauty and splendor of Targaria and held an old grudge. The Thorians' devilish leader, king Val, unable to woo Queen Reina into his deadly trap with a false proposal, in a raging fit waged a war on Targaria, but lost on a colossal scale. This loss didn't deter King Val from pursuing his greed, instead, it made him become more calculative and patient as he waited, spied and plotted in the shadows without anyone being the wiser. Nothing skipped his fiery sight as he spied on his enemy, and rebuilt on a larger scale. He found the Book of Damnation that assisted him to create creatures that would make the strongest among them quiver and die of fright. These creatures were nightwalkers whose only purpose is to eradicate any living being, any beautiful thing, anything good from their path. He had an extremely imaginative mind, was very creative in his plot, and had serpents with multiple heads that breathe fire out of their mouths, human-shaped creatures with dog heads and claws that suck the soul right out of one's body leaving a pile of saggy flesh behind, bird-like creatures that would give pterosaurs a run for their money, and can pick their preys apart with their beaks, bloodsucking creatures from hell with the strength of a hulk and the speed of lightning make up his dark, hideous, spooky, intimidating army. Now, with his murderous army ready, he could unravel the unshakable defense of Targaria and take what was rightfully his. This time around, defeat would not be his companion. Queen Reina, would eat every humiliating word she spouted at him, and pay for the destruction she put him and his kingdom through in the past. He couldn't wait to witness the look of shock on her face when he destroys what she cherishes the most! The mere thought of it alone sent him on a laughing spree. Damn! It felt so good, he gurgled out some more wicked laughter as he gazed down from his high dais at his beautiful handiwork; his vicious army. They will certainly do. Victory would be his.

He rose from his throne on the dais and faced his demonic army and roared. "Are you hungry? Do you want to quench your thirst with blood dripping with magic? Are you ready to wreak havoc on our enemies?" he grunted in satisfaction, a malicious smile paying homage to his lips as they thundered in response. "Let's head out! "

Back over at Targaria castle, Queen Reina was feeling antsy with no explicable reason. She couldn't help it and was feeling a sense of foreboding. Something bad was about to happen. It didn't matter that things were running smoothly and everything seemed calm on the surface, her intuition wouldn't stop nagging her, and warned it was the calm before the storm. It was yelling at her not to be complacent, but rather vigilant. Her sixth sense was warning her of an impending danger. Did she mention she had a great sense of premonition? It was one of her gifts and she will do well not to take it for granted.

"Ashok!" she called out, her tone filled with urgency.

"Yes, my queen," her favorite personal guard and confidant approached.

"How are things on the wall?" The wall she was referring to was the one that caged in her kingdom and kept them safe. It was an invisible magical wall innovated to keep foes like the elusive, malicious Thorian, king Val, away and in check. She hadn't heard from the scum in decades, but she knew he is not one to stay down for long. After all, he was a hungry selfish bastard who coveted her kingdom's possessions and destruction, and wouldn't stop till he's dead. But she would never let him have his way. Never!

"Everything is fine and calm. There're no disturbances."

"I need you to tighten security up there, something tells me it's the calm before the storm. Everyone should be alert. I can sense danger, but don't know where it's coming from."

"Do you think our period of grace is over?"

"I think King Val is up to no good."

"But we haven't heard anything from him. He might have kicked the bucket."

"Impossible. Ashok, we never found his body among the dead in our last standoff. I will bet my life on the fact that he is alive and hearty somewhere, and probably cooking up some evil plot to bring us down."

"You may be right, my queen. Evil never sleeps."

"Exactly. Now, hurry off and do my bidding. We need to be alert at all times." she waved him off, and made her way to the chamber of the tree. She needed to assure herself the seed of life is safe. Tomorrow, would mark fifty years of peace in Targaria, which wasn't that long for her to be at ease. She just knew that she wouldn't find any peace until Val was gone forever. None of her spies have been able to sense or find anything about their obstinate and vicious enemy. She sighed in relief when she noticed the tree and seed were safe. At least, sleep should come easy tonight. She made her way to her room and prepared for bed, but then, she barely got into her royal bed when there was a massive knock, then continuous banging on her ornate door. Abandoning the cozy warmth of her fluffy bed, she rushed towards the door and yanked it open.

"What's wrong?" she asked her disheveled guard, alarm radiating off her at Ashok's agitated countenance.

"It's Val! He has broken through the defenses of the wall, and he's not alone! He has a whole army of monsters, unlike anything I have seen. Even the king of nightmares will shy away from them, locking his doors in their faces. They're that gruesome, and you need to abandon ship."

"W... What?!"

"Somehow, Val broke through the magic protecting the walls!" her heart stopped at that announcement. She should have known! She had sensed danger in the air, but hadn't thought it was this close. "He'll be upon us soon! We need to protect the seed at all cost. My queen, you need to find a way to escape with the seed. You have to protect the seed, take it to safety while I hold up the fort here. I'll try my best to defend our home, but you and the seed of life need to be safe!" In that moment, her respect and love for her favorite guard increased tenfold. But he seemed not to know her at all, if he thinks for a second that she would run and leave her people to a fate worse than death, then he was mistaken. She was no deserter, and would never dream of leaving her subjects to fend for themselves when they needed her the most. She was the great Queen of Targaria. A fierce warrior with the heart of a lioness. She would protect her castle and subjects with her tooth and nail, with every magical force within her. She was going nowhere.

"I'm not running," she breathed forcefully. "We will stand and fight. We will defend our territory with everything we've got, and show him we're not preys to be messed with. This time we end this tug of war between us for good. Ready my horse for battle."

"Are you sure, my queen? What about the seed?"

"Don't worry about it. I will hide it from sight with my magic, even if Val breaks through, he will not get what he wants. He'll never find the seed, I promise you. Now go!" she closed the door after him, and dressed in her battle outfit with her golden armor shield embracing her upper body. Her arms and calves were shielded too. Grabbing her royal sword, dagger, bow and arrow, weaponized magical rope, she harnessed them to her body and rushed out. She had to protect the seed before joining the battle. She could hear the sounds of war getting closer. There were angry shouts, painful growl, clashes of swords reaching her ears and filling her with urgency. Grabbing the seed, she recited the spell she had finessed on it, then watched it vanish into thin air. Satisfied with her handiwork, she marched purposefully out of her glistening palace. Ashok brought her horse and she mounted it before addressing her finest and most vicious army within the castle. Others not within the castle were either been slaughtered or already fiercely engaged in the battle. She needed to save those still alive and kill the vermins. "Tonight, we fight for our lives and honor! We fight to protect our kingdom! We fight to eliminate evil! We fight for Targaria!" they roared in response, their magic sparking like electrical current in the air. "Open the Gate!" she charged out on her wild stallion, taking down the heads of the vermins who dared attack them. It was a brutal battle of wills and prowess, Ashok hadn't been kidding, Val had upped his game and the monsters on her grounds were ruthless, fast, vicious, relentless in their plunder. They didn't hesitate in tearing her fairies apart, and took pleasure in draining her people's blood and essence.

Swords clashed, magic zapped in a desperate attempt to survive the brutality of the enemy. They were strong, but not stronger than their opponents who seemed to be made of steel carved from the pits of hell. The magic of her army wasn't putting them down easily, These monsters seemed immune and were crazed, and she knew she had to change tactics. She needed to think outside the box and change the tide of the Battle in their favor. "Aim for the head, and use your magical shield to protect you from the serpents' fire! Ashok, get me five horse riders!" she ordered and shot her arrow at one of the bloodsuckers, taking him down swiftly. She shot arrow after arrow until Ashok returned, and chanted a powerful incantation that turned their horses into powerful dragons, hers the largest of them. Val, wasn't the only one who had upped his game. Now the scale was almost leveled. "Ashok, cover me while the rest of you take down as many of those scums possible!" she took to the sky, burning a trail towards her nemesis; a monster who deserved to be buried six feet under. Val deserved to burn in hell for eternity. She propelled her dragon forward, shooting down anything that stood in the way, and trying not to feel the strain of using too much magic. She landed in front of Val, and dismounted to confront him on fair ground.

"This ends now!"

"Oh, it only just started, darling."

"Don't call me that!"

"Ouch! feisty, are we?" he smacked his lips mockingly. "Did you love my surprise?"

"I will kill you for this!" she charged at him, her double swords flinging out to hit him. He swerved, bouncing from one space to another, frustrating her to no end. He shot dark fiery daggers at her, and she dodged with her shield, zapping him with her light. Angry, he attacked forcefully, and she analyzed his movements as they moved in a dance of prowess, then feinted to the right while she flung her sword to the left taking his head with it. The look of shock in his eyes pleased her immensely, and she sighed in relief as his army turned into ashes making her people to cheer in victory.

It would take some time, but they would rebuild and recover most of the things they lost. Targaria, would always be a safe haven for any looking for a home.
