Kate let out a sharp whistle as she neared the fence, then she realized it wasn't any use. It was cold and windy and there was know way the mare would leave her foal's side.

Kate reached the fence and looked around for Ellie and her foal. She saw the foal shivering in the middle of the field, and a dark lump in the corner of the stable. Unmoving.

Kate ran into the field, grabbed the foal, and led it toward the house.
