She is determined to take revenge by any means necessary on Piotr, a Polish immigrant who came to Russia and rose to the rank of royal advisor due to his intelligence and knowledge of expansion strategies. Her relationship with Piotr was marked by jealousy and a lack of trust on the princess's part, which led Piotr to distance himself from her and become involved with Anaïs, a French sculptor whom the Russian king had brought back from his trip to Paris to make a sculpture of him.Upon ascending to the throne, Sofia uses her influence to try to bring Piotr back but also to strip him of his high-ranking position.

Saint Petersbourg

Winter, August 1888

On a foggy day like any other, the intense cold made teeth chatter. King Dmitri Petrovitch, seated on his grand and luxurious wooden throne beside that of his Queen, Anna Petrovitch, was deep in discussion with his closest advisor, Viktor. The room was vast, exuding an aura of both elegance and mystique.

The King, as usual, was discussing strategies to maintain the supremacy of his kingdom when the increasing sound of boots echoed through the hall, heralding the arrival of sailors escorting a man whose clothes were covered in snow and whose face was pale.

They disdainfully threw him onto the red velvet dais embroidered with gold at the foot of the throne.

"Greetings, Your Majesty, we found this man on a barge near our coast. He claims his name is Piotr Kowalska and that he is from Poland. We suspect he might be a spy."

The King, known for his wisdom, observed the stranger with a keen eye. He turned to his advisor. "What do you think, Viktor Ivanovich?"

The advisor stepped closer. "Your Majesty, it would be wise to interrogate him further before making any decisions."

The King nodded. "Very well. Mr. Kowalska, explain yourself. Why did you leave Poland to come to my kingdom?"

Piotr, still on the ground, responded in a trembling voice. "Your Majesty, I assure you, I am not a spy. I lost everything in my country and am simply seeking a new beginning. I am willing to work hard and serve your kingdom loyally."

The King pondered for a moment. "Your words seem sincere, but we must be cautious. Captain, have him escorted to the guest quarters. Treat him with respect, but keep him under watch. In three days, we will reassess his situation."

Turning to Piotr, the King added, "If your intentions are honest, as you claim, you will have nothing to fear. Prove your worth, and you may find a place here."

Piotr bowed deeply. "Thank you for your mercy, Your Majesty. I will not disappoint you."

With these last words, he turned and followed the captain whom the King had summoned to guide him to his temporary shelter.

"We have arrived. This is where you will stay," the captain—or perhaps guard, it hardly mattered—told him as they stood in front of a particular room. It looked like all the others, except it had a bit more surveillance. Guards were stationed at the door, and even inside, blending well with the decor.

"Thank you so much for..." Before he could finish his sentence, the captain had already left.

He sighed, content nonetheless to have remained in the area, and finally entered the room reserved for him.

The next day, Piotr left his quarters to explore the palace, lingering in the Portrait Gallery. A picture of the princess, the Petrovitches' only daughter, particularly intrigued him. Finding her beautiful, he then left the gallery but overheard a conversation between the King and his advisors.

Through a door opening, he saw the Tsar and his advisors around a table. One of them, holding a compass and ruler, stated, "According to my calculations, this gold mine is closer to us; it belongs to us."

The King replied, "But King Eduard Eldoria IV is ready to fight for this mine, which he claims as an inheritance."

Viktor, an advisor, added, "If they want war, they shall have it. Their kingdom is easy to conquer; they are merely singers and dancers."

Unable to contain himself, Piotr intervened: "Your Highness, why spoil the peace over such a small matter? Negotiate with the Eldorians for shared exploitation. You will gain both economically and strategically."

The King, intrigued, asked, "Would you be capable of negotiating with King Eduard on my behalf?"

"You can count on me," Piotr replied confidently, giving Viktor a teasing wink.

The King concluded, "If you succeed, I will make you my closest advisor."

"Then I think I already am," Piotr declared, brimming with confidence.

The next day, Piotr insisted on traveling to Eldoria. The king ordered Sergei Volkov, one of his royal coachmen, to take him there.

Upon arriving at the royal palace of Eldoria, Piotr introduced himself: "I am Piotr Kowalska, emissary of the Tsar of Russia, here to discuss the dispute concerning the Oria mine with King Edward IV."

After receiving permission, Piotr was led to the throne room. Standing before the majesty of King Edward, Piotr bowed slightly.

"Welcome to Eldoria. Be direct and concise," said King Edward proudly.

"I will do my best, but I must explain my perspective. Oria is valuable to both you and us. Instead of engaging in a needless war, why not work together to exploit the mine and reach a consensus?" Piotr proposed.

"Your rhetoric is impressive, but Oria belongs to the Eldorian nobility, period," the king retorted.

"Are you willing to sacrifice peace for war? Eldoria is a jewel of architecture and art; all of it could be destroyed, lives lost, families broken, all for a mine?" Piotr insisted.

After a long moment of reflection, the king conceded: "You have won. Inform your king that I am ready to negotiate."

Piotr, delighted, had achieved his goal and could return to Russia with his head held high.

—————————————

Days later, with the issue of the Oria mine resolved, Piotr rose to the status of the king's closest advisor. Around the same time, the king's daughter, Sofia Petrovich, returned from her trip to Rome. She immediately fell under Piotr's spell the day she saw him conversing with her father upon her return.

Piotr also seemed captivated by the princess. They often met in the palace garden, where they spent hours flirting and whispering sweet words to each other.

However, over time, Sofia became very jealous and possessive. She quarreled with Piotr whenever she saw him laughing with the court maids or chatting with Marta, the cook, with whom he had a close friendship. Piotr began to feel uncomfortable, especially since their rapid closeness hadn’t given him time to properly reflect on his feelings. Indeed, though he was attracted to Sofia, he didn’t truly believe he was in love with her. But whenever he tried to be honest, the princess surprised him with a new gift, always expressing how much she was in love with him.

In December 1888, King Dmitri and Queen Anna left for France to sign an alliance treaty with the French king in various domains but also for a touristic discovery.

Meanwhile, the relationship between Sofia and Piotr deepened. One day, while taking a carriage ride through the kingdom, Sofia confided to her lover, "As soon as father returns from his trip, I will tell him about my feelings for you. He loves me dearly; I’m sure he won’t object to us getting married."

Piotr didn’t know what to say; he simply smiled without making any comments.

A month passed, and the king and queen returned from their trip with a young Parisian sculptor, Anaïs. She was blonde, with large green eyes, a pale complexion, and slender without being skinny. As soon as Piotr laid eyes on her while the king introduced her to the court, he was enchanted by the young woman, feeling a strong connection with her.

King Dmitri entrusted Anaïs with the task of sculpting a bust portrait of him. The young Frenchwoman had her own workshop set up where she spent hours at work. Piotr, however, visited her from time to time, unbeknownst to Sofia, and they spent hours talking about their respective countries, their dreams, everything and nothing. Anaïs greatly enjoyed Piotr’s company, who, it must be said, was a handsome, kind, and attentive man. It didn’t take much for him to fall for her charm.

Since she wasn’t the type to wait for a man she loved to court her, Anaïs openly declared her feelings to Piotr during one of his many visits to her workspace.

"You know, we’re adults; we don’t need to beat around the bush like this. I have no problem telling you: I like you a lot. I’ve fallen in love with you, and I think it’s the same for you, given the interest you’ve shown in me," said Anaïs.

"You’re right. I’m madly in love with you too, but I was afraid it wasn’t mutual," Piotr replied.

"And the princess Sofia? Do you love us both?" Anaïs questioned.

"No, with her it’s just attraction. I actually plan to be honest with her and tell her my true feelings," Piotr affirmed.

Of course, he meant what he said, and he put his resolution into practice the day Sofia was about to tell her father that she loved Piotr and wanted to marry him. Sofia felt betrayed when Piotr told her that he wasn’t in love with her but with Anaïs. She called Piotr every name in the book and cursed him. In the following days, she stopped eating and refused to leave her quarters, which deeply worried her parents, who were unaware of the cause of her distress.

In February, King Dmitri fell gravely ill. The doctor who came to see him informed the family that he had contracted pneumonia. He prescribed some painkillers, but the king’s condition didn’t improve. He had a high fever and coughed a lot, unable to get out of bed. The queen and princess, who were at his bedside, were distraught. Eventually, he succumbed to his illness at the end of the month.

The royal family, in mourning, organized a grand funeral for King Dmitri. Then came the time to discuss the succession. Queen Anna, feeling she wasn’t capable of assuming such a great responsibility, decided that her daughter, Princess Sofia, should be crowned.

Sofia saw her ascension to power as an opportunity to take revenge on the man who had broken her heart: Piotr.

She ordered a targeted reshuffle on the very day of her coronation, immediately dismissing Piotr from his position as advisor, and decreeing that Anaïs would no longer serve as the court’s privileged sculptor but would instead wear the uniform of a palace servant. Anaïs protested, but the ruthless queen threatened to imprison her if she didn’t comply. Sofia also ordered that Piotr be treated as the Polish fugitive he was. He was locked in one of the palace’s most infamous dungeons while his case was processed and he awaited a final judgment. This action by the queen unsettled all the foreigners in the kingdom, who feared they might suffer a similar fate at any moment.

In her desire to overturn all the decisions the king had made under Piotr’s influence, Sofia firmly resolved to seize the Oria mine by force. She sent her army to crush the Eldorians. After winning the battle for the mine decisively, they stripped Eldoria of all its wealth, all under the command of the queen, supported by her new close advisor, Viktor.

Returning to Piotr’s case, Sofia had concluded that he would be deported in exactly one week.

Anaïs, who didn’t want such a fate to befall her lover, planned an escape from the palace with Piotr. One of the dungeon guards agreed to help them on the night they decided to act. He freed Piotr, who rushed to embrace Anaïs. She told him that she had enough money on her, a payment she had received from the king after completing a sculpture for him. With that money, they could fund their journey to Paris to start a new life.

Euphoric when they managed to leave the palace unnoticed, the couple embraced, but suddenly they spotted an army of soldiers galloping towards them.

Piotr tightly held Anaïs’s hand and ran as fast as he could, zigzagging to throw off the soldiers. He finally managed to lose them by hiding in the bushes of the palace’s grand garden. He stayed there with Anaïs for a long time until the soldiers turned back.

The euphoric couple ran to St. Petersburg station and boarded a train bound for Paris, with a stopover in Germany. Once settled on the train, Piotr kissed his beloved and asked her to marry him, offering her the ring he wore on his finger, a heritage from his father. Anaïs gladly accepted, and Piotr slipped it onto her ring finger before giving her a kiss. The other passengers on the train warmly applauded the soon-to-be-married couple.

"The horizon of Paris awaits us to start everything anew," Piotr whispered.

"Who would have thought that by coming to Russia, I would find love. Life is full of surprises. I love you so much, Piotr," Anaïs smiled, resting her head on her lover’s shoulder.

"I love you even more, my dear," Piotr kissed her cheek just as the train announced its imminent departure.

—————————————

Back at the palace, Sofia was in a fit of rage, destroying everything in her path when her soldiers reported that they hadn’t been able to catch the Piotr-Anaïs couple.

"This isn’t over yet, believe me, you’ll pay for this," she threatened into the void. But her outburst was short-lived, as the commander of the army came in, panting, to inform her of an Eldorian escape. Their army had invaded the kingdom.

"What are we going to do, my queen? They’ve already taken down a large number of our soldiers and are advancing towards the palace," the commander asked.

"Secure all the surroundings," she ordered.

"And the people?" the commander questioned.

"We can’t do anything for them," she declared coldly before collapsing to the ground, helpless.

She broke down, petrified by the magnitude of the situation.

Suddenly, a loud noise arose; the palace was under attack. The large windows shattered, and the door trembled, ready to give way at any moment.

The queen, who was sleeping in her chamber, suddenly awoke, alarmed by the commotion. She rushed as fast as she could to the throne room and inquired anxiously, "What is happening, my dear daughter?"

Sofia didn’t have time to respond; the great door had just collapsed. King Eduard Eldoria IV, leading his army, declared as he entered the room, "You have no idea whom you declared war on. It's over for you, Sofia Petrovitch..."

THE END.

That's cool, I need your help with a cover I'm finding it difficult to design. I need a cover with one girl and four guys. The girl might be in the center or front, but she must have four guys around her. Do you think you can design something like that for me? I couldn't get a Pic with 4 guys and a girl.
