The submerged city

Clarita was excited! She quickly let go of her boyfriend's hand and walked away, eager to explore the beautiful and unknown city.

Guaçu ran after her in anguish, fearing that she would twist her foot on the tortuous terrain.

But Clarita didn't think and didn't stop.

The other passengers on the ship also seemed to be as interested in the news as Clarita.

One by one, despite the steep drop in level (which seemed more like a giant step), the passengers got off to visit the place.

And, although Guaçu was more interested in finding his way back home than in taking a tour of the place, he believed that Clarita might like the beautiful corner she saw when she took off.

Upon arriving at the location, Clarita soon became distracted by the colored pebbles (which she began to collect).

Not far away, he saw a beautiful rock, in a lovely mix of pink and lilac colors (and some other details).

Of course, the rock was too big to move, but he tried anyway.

Her boyfriend Guaçu, concerned about her weight, came to help her with her prank.

At that moment, the stone opened.

Stunned by the crack, they looked at each other curiously and then returned their attention to the stone.

Afraid that it might be something that could bite her, Guaçu pulled her hand away from the stone.

— ¡Oh!

Clarita reacted as if she had been hurt, as if she had suffered some cut.

As he went to look at his hand, the stone finished opening.

The glitter was extremely magical and sparkling!

And when I looked a little closer at the find, there was no doubt: Although the coloring was strange for something like this, it was a treasure chest!

But what were they supposed to do with that?

— We are rich! — Clarita celebrated, her high-pitched voice stuck in her throat.

But Guaçu thought differently: "If the people on the ship find out about this, we will have nothing and they will still be able to start a fight!"

He remained thoughtful, trying to resolve the situation so that he could fulfill the wishes of his girlfriend, who obviously wanted to take the trunk and its contents home.

While doing so, Clarita grabbed a long, pointed object to finish freeing the trunk from the ground (since it was stuck in one of the corners).

Guaçu was pulling the object by a handle, while using his feet to push himself, in order to produce more force to release it here, until... he fell backwards to the ground.

— Are you okay? — he worried and dropped what he was using as a lever.

— What is that? – sitting on the ground (where she fell) she asked while looking at the object she dropped.

— I don't know. It was something I found. – he murmurs while checking if he hurt his head.

— Is that a trident? – he leans over to check better.

In fact, that was exactly all.

A little scared, he threw the trident forward, stood up and went to see where the other passengers were.

There was no one in sight and from the voices, they must have been among the buildings of the city.

— Come on. – he said while trying to lift the trunk with just both hands.

— Be careful! Or you'll give up. – Guaçu laughs when he hears his girlfriend. – It's better to drag him. That way you won't get hurt.

— But dragging it will make a lot of noise! – he complains somewhat irritated, but in a low voice, since he doesn't want to be heard by the others. And looking around he decided: — This is what you do, go out for a walk with the others, without saying anything to anyone, leave it to me.

Clarita begins to try to locate the other passengers by the voices, she manages to reach them, for a moment, but then she gets lost from the group without realizing it, while chasing the shiny floor.

It was so beautiful! It was almost like being in fairyland!

In fact, at that time, Clarita certainly believed in fairies.

Guaçu needed the help of that trident and also the chains at the exit of the ship to be able to lift that chest (since the entrance of the ship was very high).

The previously stubborn window was now closed and next to it (just below), Guaçu placed the pink trunk and camouflaged it with Clarita's coat (which was still on the boat).

When she realized it, Clarita was in a rather gloomy place. She looked up and had the strange feeling that the whole place was under a huge skylight.

Judging by the direction it had come from, she was almost certain that the rainbow she saw actually marked the treasure.

— How strange… – she commented to herself.

While she was distracted by the vegetation, in the middle of the city, strange and small beings ran towards the tallest building.

— He took the trident.

— And where is it? – asks a woman in a hoarse voice.

— We do not know.

— What do you mean you don't know? – angrily.

— We came quickly to tell you...

— And then we didn't see him, ma'am. – adds another little one.

— Then find it! It won't do me any good to bring her here if I don't have that.

— Y-yes, ma'am.

Guaçu looks at the immensity of the city in front of him and where they ended up: the place looks like a cave.

Although his greatest desire was to go straight after his girlfriend, he decided to walk the return path alone, because he wanted to know where he was going (he wanted to make sure he could leave there with his beloved).

The rest of the people were impatient because they couldn't get into the buildings.

But after all, what would be the scenario then, if you can't get in?

Probably not, because the buildings looked pretty intact.

Were they all... on a retreat?

No! Nonsense! That would be absurd.

So perhaps the inhabitants of the region were afraid of them.

That's it! They must have been hiding, they were all hiding.

"Let's clap our hands to call them here and show them we're friendly," someone suggested.

While some applauded, others knocked on doors to be served.

Precisely the oldest man of all (a sullen, white-haired man), who in a grumpy tone, repeated: It's an abandoned stage. It's nothing more than an old abandoned film set! Nha!

But since he didn't know which movie, no one paid attention to his complaints.

Surprised, Clarita was approached by the fish men (if that is their real name), who attempted to scare her with their sharp, pointed spears aimed at her.

However, Clarita, innocently delighted by it all, remained unperturbed, as if the weapon they carried was nothing more than an accessory.

They then determined that she had to go with them, but for some reason she believed it was an invitation and followed them willingly.

The cave seemed to have no bottom and there was no way out by sailing (the sea did not exist in any direction, neither below nor above!).

Giving up on finding a possible way out on foot, Guaçu returned to the city and was surprised by the commotion that the others were creating. What's more, he was surprised by the absence of Clarita!

— Where is that girl?! – he complained to himself.

As Clarita climbed higher and higher into the city, she noticed something interesting: there were real fish swimming in the landscape around her!

But how was that possible if it wasn't underwater?

— So where is the trident? Did you bring the trident?

— No.

— So… You don’t want to help, do you? It’s going to be a tough match! – said the short fish who was waiting for them, going to attack the girl behind who was absentmindedly admiring the colors of the city below, leaning on the fence.

— She had already disappeared when we found her, explained one of those who accompanied her there.

— But that's bad! This is very bad! With her here we'll only have problems.

—Wouldn't he enjoy destroying it?

— Mmm? To destroy? – finally something in the conversation caught the girl’s attention.

— And why would he have this job?

— She hates her. I thought you might be satisfied.

— Not without the trident.

— They are talking… – Clarita was about to ask if they were looking for the same object she had found, but was interrupted by a being who ordered them to enter.

The place was bright, with high blue walls.

There wasn't much furniture, but there were several decorations on the walls and on the steps further into the room.

— So… You came… I knew that one day or another you would find a way to come here and take your place! – a female voice with a rough throat spoke in a low voice.

— Mmm? – the young woman struggled to see who was speaking.

The person is at the top of the landing opposite (which you have to climb the stairs to get to).

She appears to be wearing a long black dress with a tattered hem (perhaps because it drags so much on the ground) and is facing away.

— Tell me, where is it? – still with his back turned, he extends his right hand demanding that it be handed over to him.

— Where is what?

— Don't play dumb! I know perfectly well that this was the first thing you looked for!

Clarita thinks about the treasure, but she is not sure after the fishermen's conversation.

— I don’t know. – she answers fearfully.

— I knew you could catch that trident, — the sharp-toothed woman says as she sits down. — I’ve had my eye on you ever since Grandma was first at sea.

And don't pretend you don't know where they come from, because you've probably noticed they're different from everyone else. If they couldn't hide their appearance, they couldn't hide it from you either!

— Hide what? Are you crazy? What are you talking about? – the girl is already irritated.

— Very well. Let's say I believe in your innocence. Where is the trident? Tell me and I'll let you go. That is, if you want to go.

— And why wouldn't I want to go?

— Excellent! – the gloomy woman comments, with a huge smile from ear to ear.

Searching for his girlfriend, Guaçu begins to try to reason like the girl.

The more you walk, the more you notice the similarity of the landscape to those described in fairy tales. Then she had a wonderful idea: to look for a castle. What girl wouldn't like to go to a castle?

As he left a small house, a dwarf-like being questioned the child who was passing by to give him a warning: — You have to get out of here.

— Not now. That's impossible. But since you're here, can you tell me if there's a castle around here?

— The castle does not exist in this part of the city. It remains there, where you humans cannot be.

—Why did you call me that? – the boy asks suspiciously.

— You need to go. For everyone's safety. She already got what she wanted. It won't be long before she buries everyone here. Quick! You don't have much time because you can't breathe underwater.

— I can't leave here without my girlfriend. And what did she want? Who is she?

— There is no time for explanations. Tell the others. – the dwarf goes back into the house so as not to have to continue arguing.

—Not without my Clarita! — the young man finally complains.

— Hold on! Did you say... Clarita? – the dwarf asks as he leaves the room again.

— I don’t have time to argue with you anymore. – Guaçu answers without stopping walking or looking back.

— But I know.

— What do you mean you know? – Guaçu stops to talk to the dwarf.

— There was a problem. What she wanted was lost. So they had to catch her.

— Why did they catch her? — the boy asks with an angry expression.

— So that he could give her the trident, since they couldn't take it if it were in their hands because it's too dangerous.

— You want that? I know where it is. Wait there. I'll go get it and they'll let her go, right?

With a strange, worried look on her face, as she grabs the boy by the arm to stop him from leaving, she says: — Don't do that. I'll leave him there and you just won't tell me where he is; I don't want to know. It's dangerous to share this information and it's safer for everyone to stay where they are. Do you want your girlfriend? I'll help you find him. Follow me.

On the way, the dwarf explained to her that since the evil woman was not very sure if she was a descendant of the family, she made this bubble so that she could enter.

All the inhabitants had to evacuate the city so that she could perform this enchantment and everyone who remained in the city was affected by the spell, as was he.

And so, as soon as he gets what he wants, he will flood the city again (so that everything goes back to normal).
