Food on the High Seas

— Do you want me to cook on top of the water?

— Not on top of the water, in the middle of the ocean.

— Big differences!

— A cruise is really very different from the middle of the sea. For starters, it has a stove.

— I don't see the point in that, I never liked the idea of taking months to get somewhere! – with her arms crossed she waves one of her hands in disdain.

— Come on, come on. Don't be fearful.

— Humf! – She turns her head to the side and then raises her nose.

— So should I really let that whole ship die of food poisoning? – moment of silence. – Okay! I'll choose someone else instead. And to think, I asked you to go just so you could have the chance to serve your dishes to the Great Ones.

Still with her arms crossed and head turned, she arches her eyebrow and takes a look. However, when she notices that he noticed, she turns her whole body in the direction where her face was facing, puffs out her chest more and says "Humf!", again.

— There is! Okay, that's enough! – says with his arm outstretched and his palm open in a “stop” sign – I’m tired of you. Be stubborn alone!

— Stubborn?

— That's right, stubborn. It's what you are. – says pointing at her with his index finger, then takes the hat from the coffee table, puts it on his head and puts it down – I'm coming.

— Go. – says looking back over her shoulder and then shrugs and looks forward again.

In a dark wood restaurant on the pier...

— I was trying to convince Dulce to come, but that's impossible. Her fear of the sea is greater than her dream.

— Sad. I was sure this would be his big chance.

— She just sat there on her stool. – raises the mug to take a sip of beer.

The boy, after thinking in silence for a moment, says: — So should I ask my friend to go back to work?

— I think so. – and takes another sip of cold beer from the mug.

— Oh!... She won't like it. I was already counting on this break. If you doubt it, you should already be walking. I don't even know if I can find her at home. – She waves her hand upset and rests her arm on the table.

— But you'll have to find her or those people will go hungry. There are many days at sea... It will become a tomb there!

— Okay... – the boy replies in agony.

— Nice way to convince someone to sail!

— Dulce! – the man shouts in surprise.

— I think I should consider that I will be comfortable with all that space around me. Which is certainly much better than a tight coffin. – gestures her arm theatrically, interpreting her own speech.

— Dulce! – says with an expression on her face as if she thinks she is exaggerating.

— And feel proud of the luxurious material from which it is made.

— Dulc... – tries to speak once again, looking up (at her face) with a disappointed look. But he can't, as she continues to talk nonstop as if she doesn't notice his attempts.

— Yes, and I know that a lot of people consider a funeral at sea something very "chic", but you forgot one thing: Nobody likes a mass grave! – says everything in a mocking way followed by anger.

And while the boy is dying laughing...

— Can I talk now, Dulce? – with a bored expression and his head resting on the hand of the arm that is resting his elbow on the table, the man asks.

Dulce doesn't respond at all, just shakes herself while shaking her head from side to side with both hands together in front of her body.

— So, I'm supposed to assume you've changed your mind?

— Yeah, I guess I'll have to keep you two from serving time in jail.

— Jail?! – the boy suddenly gets scared.

— But of course. Murder is a serious crime. And you two will face the death penalty, since the sum for each of the passengers will exceed your lifespan, that is death.

— Said the woman who lives forever but is still afraid of the sea.

— Let's get to the point, I didn't come here to argue with you all day. Don't be boring!

Surprised, the man asks: — And what's the point?

— The kitchen, where is it?

— Take her there.

— But first, take it, I've already carried this here, so on the way up it's up to you to carry it. – she says, dropping the two suitcases into the man’s hands.

— OK. – responds by taking both at the same time, one in each hand and falling to the ground at high speed at the same moment due to the weight.

— Let's go. – Dulce says this to the boy while she tucks part of her hair behind her ear, in such a natural way, that it seems like nothing strange happened.

— I'm so glad you agreed, aunt! – says as they walk to the ship.

— I'm not your aunt! – says angrily.

— We did this for you.

— Where's the stairs? – says looking at the vessel with open arms.

— It's a ramp.

She then takes a deep breath and says: — I just hope it's steady. – And she climbs up, holding on tightly to both handrails. As she climbs, her bag strap runs down her arm until it reaches her wrist and as a result, her bag keeps dangling, because she never adjusts it for fear of it coming loose. The scene is comical.

— You want help?

— No not a bit.

Despite the express order, the boy stretches out his hand to help when she is almost reaching the deck. At that moment, she decides to accept the help and climbs aboard.

— Ready. I achieved. It wasn't difficult at all. – then she adjusts her bag on her shoulder and takes the first step.

— Lady, Dulce! – the boy runs to the aid of the woman who is now sprawled on the floor.

— But what happened to the floor?! – asks the dazed woman, slapping the floor with both hands, still outstretched.

— It's right there. – The boy responds, confused, who is now crouched next to her to help her get up.

— Oh no! It's not! This is illusion! – says while being helped to get up.

— The sensations are different in the sea, because of the water underneath. But you get used to it. – says the captain after she gets up.

— Sir, this is... – the boy starts to introduce her with a hand gesture but...

— A crazy! – Dulce completes the boy's sentence, still with her arm extended upwards with her index finger pointing into the air (a gesture she made while getting up, complaining about the floor).

— I was going to say... Cook... substitute. – finishes with his head down with a somewhat awkward smile.

— I'm not a cook, I'm a Chef! – It is then that Dulce realizes what pose she is in and corrects her position and into the ship.

— Just being crazy to accept this challenge. – she complains as she walks with her knees bowing with each step.

Arriving in the kitchen she immediately leans on the counter.

— This is where you will work.

The room is huge.

— It seems good. – positively shakes head, looking at the counter.

— But I want these carts away from here. – points to the row of golden serving carts that are lined up next to the double doors.

— But they need to stay here.

— No need, no. Have your way. – orders.

— Okay .

— And one more thing: Don’t call me Lady again because Lady, you are in Heaven! – says looking back, over her shoulder with a stern expression. And after... — So... Are you my team?

Everyone shakes their heads positively.

— So let's start. — decides.

In the restaurant of the ship that is now sailing...

— And Dulce, how are you? Did you like the kitchen fit for a Queen?

— Eh... Eh... – looking down.

— Which "Eh"? – the irritated man leans back from the chair, interlocks the fingers of his own hands and rests both arms on the table in a gesture of almost prayer.

— I don't know if she can do it. She can't even stand.

— Like this?

Meanwhile, in the kitchen...

It had been difficult to convince the team about the new menu. But now, it was just a matter of checking that all the recipes were being properly seasoned (despite the difficulty in creating the new Menu).

Everything was almost ready when the boat started to list.

— This is normal. – commented one of the assistants upon seeing his panicked look.

The boat then tilted to the opposite side, this time more steeply. The dessert pots started to slide and someone had to run to save them.

Clinging to the counter, Dulce hears the cook next to her say: — Everything will be fine. We're done. Can go. Trust.

In response, she gives a slight, slow nod of her head (almost imperceptible) and whispers (inaudible): — I wanted to be sure!

Leaving the kitchen, she drops her cap on the first cart she finds in the restaurant and searches for his acquaintances still walking with his knees bending with each step.

— How are you? Sit down. – with his hand the man shows the empty chair.

— Honestly, after what I've been through, it's better to stay standing, it makes it easier to escape. – is distressed, with her hand on her heart.

— Don't be exaggerated. After all, you're going to have to sleep.

— Oh, and to think that my lineage only survived due to the bad luck of my uncle not being able to get time off work to be able to take advantage of the free tickets to the Titanic that he had won in a promotion. And now, when I fall asleep, I will end up having the fate of Poseidon! – now has her right hand on her left chest and her left arm resting theatrically over her forehead.

— Your generation, huh? I thought you were from before.

Placing her hands on the table, she turns to the man who is her friend and says: — Stop playing around, Jão. I am serious. – in a serious and angry tone of voice.

— Jão?

— She says my name wrong when she's angry. – he responds almost in a muchocho, then looks back at her friend and says: — Don't be like that. Poseidon may have had to go live underwater but he lives well there.

In return, he receives a look of attempted execution accompanied by a mocking smile composed of contained anger, from Dulce.

— But anyway, I doubt you'll sink because everyone knows that Poseidon defends his daughters and that's why there are no sea turbulences when one of them is on board. – tries to fix the situation with a compliment.

— Yeah. Sit down. Take the opportunity to have dinner with us, Lady.

Enraged Dulce looks at the boy and says: — I already told you that Lady... Is here! Lady is here! I'm alive and I want to live! – Dulce screams shrillly, lengthening all the final syllables of her sentences while desperately trying to hold on to the first piece of fixed golden metal that she is able to see as the ship falls all the way to the right, knocking everyone over.

— Get off my leg, Jão!

— I don't know if you noticed, but you can't let go. — Where is Paulino?

— I don't know! – responds shouting.

Fallen over the closed elevator doors, the boy is unconscious.

However, although he managed to locate him, João, he could do nothing to reach him.

— Whoa! – shout those who still maintain consciousness after the great turn of the vessel when it begins to fall again towards the opposite side.

Dulce feels her body spinning as if she were the hand of a clock while she is sure that she is going to fall, as her fingers seem to stretch beyond their real size and with that they slowly open, releasing themselves from the bar. golden, which she can now tell is the trunk of the table because she is looking closely at her hands to keep them firmly gripped so as not to fall.

But luckily for she, her weakness will no longer be increased by João's weight clinging to his ankle because he couldn't resist the movement of the ship and fell sliding towards Paulino who also appears lucky in the situation, despite being passed out.

Certain that he will cause chaos by breaking the glass when he collides with it at the end of his fall, clinging to the boy's body, João closes his eyes after futilely trying to hold on to something and continues to fall towards the window.

But wait!

What's that out there?

"It's not possible!" Did they do a pirouette in the air? It could be?

He I would never know! For although she regained his sight, he was unable to see anything else because now the ship had regained its correct position in the sea.

What a scare!

Desperate, he ran, waiting, across the cracked floor of the ship, towards the deck to check how badly the city's buildings had been damaged and whether he recognized the city they were in.

Surprisingly, the floor of the Lizza Beth was intact all the way and when arriving in the open area, nothing could be seen in front or on the sides of the ship other than the blue of the sky and sea.

— Ouch! – groaning in pain in her cracked temple, Dulce approaches, wanting to understand why he abandoned her nephew's body (she feared the worst, so she didn't check for herself).

— We were above the city.

— Hmm? – looks at him strangely and with her head tilted to the side.

— From the window, I saw... the aerial view of the buildings. I just didn't recognize the city. They were modern buildings, you know? It seemed like something from another world. – open hand, eternally extended in front of him as he looks into space, gives the impression that he is half out of breath.

Therefore, trying to bring him back to his senses, Dulce tries to calm him down by telling him that there is nothing there and that what he saw was nothing more than an optical illusion caused by the movement of all the fallen objects.

While she argued, she walked and did so, in all directions (without ever getting close to the side walls of the edges), until she stopped with her mouth open on the part of the floor whose floor was made of glass.

Afraid that there was a crack in the floor, João slowly approached, until he shared the reason that was making her react that way: The glass floor revealed an underwater city.

— I want to know how this happened.

— What?! – Dulce shouts indignantly.

L'écriture est correcte et la formation des phrases sont simplicites mais il y a une chose à laquelle j'ai horreur il y a des traits partout parfois je me trouve des guillemets et parfois je me retrouve sans guillemet. Il faut maintenir une pose constante.
