Prologue

I sighed, using the arm that I still had, the left one, to sit up in my bed, grabbing my bulletproof robotic arm, popping it into my shoulder socket, grunting as the morphine installed in it kicked in it, only to wear off a few seconds later, from me being so used to it.

I smiled softly, hearing my twin sister knock on my door to get me up.

"Rise and shine, Ethan!" She called, opening my door.

"Already up, little shark." I chuckled, ruffling her hair.

"Your thermos installment is full of coffee." She growled, playfully shoving me away as she handed it to me.

"Thanks, little shark." I smiled, popping the hand off of the arm, and inserting the thermos before screwing it back on.

"Hurry up, robot!" She called, shaking my keys, attempting to scare me, but I'd gotten up last night, and had exchanged her car keys for mine before I went back to sleep.

I chuckled, removing my custom made car key from a little compartment in the palm of the hand, before pulling a flesh-like glove over it. What made it special is that I programmed it to work on any car that used a key sensing system.

Walking into the garage, I walked over to my truck, and I stuck my tongue out at her, unlocking her door.

"Meanie." Jaline, my sister, huffed, climbing up in it while pouting.

"Care to explain how you're the second most popular person in school, and are this childish?" I teased, turning the key in the ignition and opening the garage door.

"It's cause I drive a Shelby, probably." She yawned, leaning against the window as I drove us to the high school.

"You mean you drive my Shelby." I mumbled, taking my keys from her.

"But you never drive it, so why can't I?" She whined, reaching for the key, not trying to convince me, just playing with me.

"I don't drive it because I need to fix the air conditioning in it, and I need to fix the thought to action time on this arm before I drive it again, and the transmission jumps gears." I explained, locking the key for it in the center dash.

As I turned my eyes to the road again, she sighed, agreeing with me as we pulled up to the school, parking in the back of the lot.

"Come on, Ethan, why can't we park at the front?" She begged boredly, not wanting to walk so far.

"Because last time I did, your boyfriend's dog slashed my tires." I reminded, climbing out the truck and slipping the key back in my palm, before making sure the glove didn't look suspicious.

"He didn't know it was your truck when he did that, he thought it was some guy trying to take me away from him." She excused, climbing out behind me, before I locked the doors.

As soon as I set foot in the school, I was greeted by her boyfriend, a very jealous guy, who didn't understand why I, as Jaline's legal guardian, refused to let him stay over on weekends.

"Step. Away. From. Her." He growled, getting up in my face, even though Jaline tried to stop him.

"Hey, you believe in magic and spells and all that right?" I asked, watching as he nodded.

"Good, I cast broken nose." I huffed, my metal fist connecting with his nasal passage.

"Bad, bad brother." Jaline mumbled, annoyingly, but she knew what happened when people got in my space, before running over to check on him.

"I warned him twenty-three times, that's twenty-three more than most people get" I growled, leaning against the wall as people gathered round, rumors starting up already, and it was only the second day of school.

I sighed, helping him up, while also snapping his nose into place.

"I warned you, man." I pointed out, but I respected him, he had the either courage or stupidity to stand up to someone when he thought they were endangering his girlfriend.

"Yeah, I know. Sorry, I just really don't like it when people get close to her." he groaned, wiping the blood from his nose as he and Jaline walked towards their class.

I shrugged, heading back to my truck and climbing in. I was twenty-five, and Jaline was sixteen, same for her boyfriend.

Driving back to the house, I set to work on my arm, popping open a panel and trying to figure out why the reaction time was slow, then I noticed it, I had eighteen wires, two circuit boards, and a knife launcher all wired to the same motherboard, causing signals to get slowed.

Disconnecting nine wires, I rerouted them through the motherboard in the shoulder, instead of the one right above my elbow, those nine controlled my independent finger joints, and the ninth controlled my palm muscles.

Testing the new reaction time, I realized I'd gotten rid of all the slowed signals, and it was now functioning the millisecond I tried anything.

Being happy with that, I set to work trying to find out while my transmission in the mustang was jumping.

I soon found the problem, the transmission fluid was low, something I'd forgotten to check.

Grabbing a container of it from the truck bed, and topping the mustang off, I grabbed the keys and cranked it, making sure it would turn over and shift gears.

I chuckled as I took it for a spin, feeling it work for once, rolling my window down instead of trying to fix the air conditioning, since it wasn't really broken, the temperature knob was just taken out, to keep Jaline from taking it.

I soon realized I'd spent the day fixing stuff, so I headed to the school to pick her up.

"You said it was broke, asshole." She grumbled, climbing in the passenger seat.

I ruffled her hair, before telling her boyfriend he could get in.

"Thank you, Mr. Knight." He mumbled appreciatively, climbing in the back seat.

"Call me Ethan, Mr. Knight makes me sound like I'm her father." I joked, revving the engine before taking off down the road.

"Ethan, slow the fuck down, you said yourself that you don't have the reaction time." Jaline screeched, clinging to the seat.

"I fixed it earlier." I explained, pulling into the garage.

"I was wondering why Jal no longer shows up to school driving this thing, why is that?" Her boyfriend, James, asked, opening his door.

"Cause it's not her car." I explained, turning the engine off and hanging the key up on the hook inside the kitchen.

"That's not fair. Deddy left me two cars, but you won't let me get them." She pouted, punching my arm.

"Yeah, well let's go get them, I got the key to the storage building they're in yesterday." I said, grabbing the truck keys and hooking my car trailer up.

"Really??" She asked, hey eyes wide with anticipation.

"Yeah. I'll let you pick between one of them and the mustang once I put them side by side, I know how much you're attached to the thing." I said, climbing into the front seat, telling James to climb in the bed of the truck and look for ratchet straps.

Pulling up into the little parking lot I'd helped our father build, a year before he'd passed, I parked the truck and trailer against the side of the building and unlocked the building, sliding the rolling door up.

Inside the building, sat a black, dust covered Cadillac Deville, with a blood red vinyl of Jaline's signature on both doors.

"What's that emblem? And where's the other car?" She wondered, pointing to the grill.

"Cadillac. And I don't know." I explained, opening the hood to see if anything was wrong with it.

"I don't know what that is. I think I want the mustang." She said, looking over the car before walking back outside.

"Okay. Let me get this thing loaded up. James, turn on the light so I can see if he left this thing with the undercarriage chained down." I said, pointing to a light switch on the wall beside him.

As the lights flickered on, I chuckled, barely believing it.

"Hey, little shark, I found the other car." I called out, putting the Deville in neutral and pushing it into the sunlight.

Behind where the Deville had been, sat a Lamborghini Contach, the headlights stuck open.

"What is that?" She asked, coming into view.

"Something that hasn't been cranked up in nine years, I thought he'd sold it." I said, wiping the dust off of the hood, revealing the emblem.

"Even if you want it, I won't let you drive it, that thing doesn't have any safety features, it's basically a fast death trap." James growled, standing in between her and the entrance to the shed.

"What do you think, sharky? which one do you want, or do you want both?" I asked, holding the keys to both in my hand.

"I'd rather have the mustang than either, I've never heard of either of these cars.

"If you say so. I'll get these loaded." I said, climbing into the Deville and chuckling as I heard it's engine purr, not a single skip in it. It was in better condition than the Shelby or the truck, which was just an old Dodge Dakota I'd customized.

After I got it loaded, I ran ratchet straps through the tires, before putting the key in the truck's dash and going over to the Contach.

Giving the key a turn, I smiled a little feeling it rev up.

"James, can you back a trailer?" I asked.

"Yeah, I've backed bigger ones than that one." He said, knowing what I was thinking and climbing into the driver's seat of the Dakota, which had a new engine, three hundred added horsepower, a re-welded back bumper, and I'd put a whole third set of wheels on it, giving it better traction.

"Warning, it's a automatic!" I called out, knowing the little old truck he owned was a manual.

"You going with James or me, little shark?" I asked, pulling the Contach up beside Jaline.

"James. I hate the way you drive anything but a truck." She excused, climbing into the cab and they took off.

I shrugged, revving the engine and putting it in drive, reaching top speed on a straight road, before testing the brakes by drifting around the turns.

I arrived a full twenty minutes before them, and started tinkering around with the engine on the Shelby, making sure the oil wasn't low, and that there was no leaks in the trans fluid or the gas tank.

Finding nothing wrong with it, I smiled, slamming the hood shut and pulling it into the front yard.

I was in the middle of lining the Contach up with the Shelby, when they pulled up and almost took out my mail box.

"What took y'all so long?" I chuckled, climbing out of it and walking over to the trailer.

"This maniac almost overturned us twice, on the same turn!" Jaline called out, frantically climbing out.

"Well, let me get the Deville lined up and you can start picking." I said, removing the straps.

"I'll save you the trouble. I want the mustang, it's the only one I won't come out of school and find someone saying it's their car." She yawned, holding her out for the key.

I nodded, tossing her the key, before putting the keys for the Deville and Contach in my palm.

"I'll get everything back in the garage, I think I'll leave the truck in the shed in the back." I called, pulling the truck into the back yard and unhooking the trailer.

After I got all the cars put up, and closed the garage, I went into the town in the truck, and straight to the airport. She knew I was leaving for base training.
