Did I expect for this to happen? no. It is really something none can expect that will happen to anyone. Losing someone like this really does break you into thousands of pieces. That someone was supposed to be my husband. His name is… or actually I should say… was Ben. We didn’t have a perfect relationship. Every couple has argued and fought. So did ours but we always resolved them. I just don’t understand why he would do this. Past trauma maybe? Really I don’t know.
“Ben was a sweetheart, he made me laugh and I mean a lot. He was just someone you would want to spend time with. He didnt show any signs of being at risk of suicide. At least to me. What if I showed him that I really care? What if I acted differently around him?” I mentioned.
“Miss Verlice, I do not think that you should overthink about what happened. You can’t change the past. You can only act in the future.” Alina added.
She looked at the clock on the white wall. I also looked. It’s the end of the session.
“It helped to meet with you Alina. Thank you.” I added.
I took out some money from my sage purse. I gave the money to Alina.
I put on my verdant coat and got my green bag. I left her office.
It was cloudy outside.
As I walked through Seattle a lady yelled. “Nice black turtleneck!”
I yelled back “Thank you!”
I was about to get into my car when a lady approached me and asked. “I like your checkered black and white pants. I also love your black heel boots, where did you buy them?”
“JC Penny I think.” I replied and got in my coal Audi Q7.
I arrived at my house. I wanted to chat with Ben but he is dead. I guess I'm still not used to the fact that he has been dead for a week.
I went to my room. His stuff was still there.
I got a text from Mrs. Garcheu. “Rose I hope this is not too much to ask but me and my husband are having a hard time trying to organize a funeral. Could you try to organize it?”
“Yes.” I texted back.
“Thank you.” She replied.
I sat by my desk and opened my computer. I started to make plans for Ben’s funeral. It was going to happen on a Sunday Morning at a church.
I also made copies of invitation cards. The background of the invitations was white. I sent an empty copy to Ms. Garechu.
Then I began making invitations to send to people that knew Ben.
After I finished it was night.
I went to sleep in a long sleeve buttoned silver silk shirt and long loose silk gray pants.
I remember being in a pitch black room. There were two wooden chairs that were facing each other. I was sitting in one of them and wearing an arm covering loose ground touching black dress and coal heels.
Ben was sitting in the other chair and wearing a full black suit and coal laced boots.
“Do you realize how much damage you have done to people's lives?” I asked.
“I’m sorry. I was in pain.” Ben added.
“The damage is done. Your apologies won’t fix anything. You are dead. You have hurt everyone by that.” I said as I got more emotional.
Tears started to fall down my face.
“Even me.” I wept.
There was a pause of silence.
“The past kept on coming back. It haunted me. I could not sleep or think normally. People started to ignore me and basically slowly started to forget about me. I feel like that was sometimes how you acted.” Ben uttered. A tear fell from his left eye.
I woke up, it was still night. I cried into my pillow. So many teardrops fell onto my pillow. I closed my eyes. Teardrops were still coming out. Eventually I fell asleep again.
The ringing of my alarm clock woke me. I went to the bathroom. My face was so red. I washed it. I also brushed my teeth and other things I needed to do in the bathroom.
I made myself a bagel with ham. I ate it.
I picked out clothes I will wear to work today. I picked out a black blazer with a white t-shirt and coal long slim pants.
Stuff like that is really the only thing I wear to work, just different color variations.
I only could wear stuff like that because it's the dress code.
Before leaving I got my onyx purse and put on jet black heels.
I work at my Dad’s company as his assistant. Dad says that it will help me to take over as CEO and owner.
He also from time to time has me do general council stuff. Dad says it might help when I become CEO.
I arranged some meetings and went to some. It was good to get some experience.
Lunch break came. I made myself some coffee. I felt the sun shine on my face as I did so.
While it was still pouring Anya came. She was holding her coffee cup. She had shoulder length auburn hair and eyes like wood.
She wore glasses. Black glasses to be exact.
“I’m sorry about what happened. I give my condolences.” Anya said.
“Thank you for the condolences.” I said.
There was a pause of silence.
“I know that you are going through a hard time. So I wanted to let you know that I’m here for you.” Anya mentioned.
“Thanks but could we not talk about Ben. I just want to focus on work.” I added.
Break finished. I went back to work. I worked until 5pm.
Days passed. I made preparations for the funeral.
