Once upon a time in a land far away,
A group of young explorers set out to play.
They stumbled upon rocks of all shapes and sizes,
And wondered what secrets were held in these prizes.
Geology, they learned, is the study of Earth's crust,
It's formed by volcanos, earthquakes, and dust.
Rocks are classified by how they were created,
Some will look similar but they are not related
Igneous rocks are formed by hot lava,
And can be found in Hawaii, or even in Java.
Sedimentary rocks are layers of sand,
Where fossils are commonly found in our land
Metamorphic rocks which love to change shapes,
Are formed deep down in tectonic plates
Included is slate and even quartzite,
They're found all over, whether day or night.
But Geology isn't just rocks, you know,
It's also about earthquakes, and how they can blow,
Tectonics, fault lines, and so much erosion,
And Earth's many ways to begin corrosion
The explorers learned, as they played and had fun,
There's so many rocks here under the sun,
They picked up stones of all shapes and hues,
And proudly exclaimed, "We're geologists too!"
