I chew on the inside of my lip and stare off into space as the teacher talks to the class. In all reality every person in here is doing the same thing that I'm doing. It's safe to say less than half a classroom actually listens the whole time in class.
But that's what being a teen is all about right? Not listening? Misbehaving? Making mistakes that have big consequences and then learning from them?
That's the beauty of this all. You can do as many wrong things as you want and get caught for every single one of them and blame it on the stupidity of the teenage mind. Blame it on hormones. Drunken nights out and misbehaving. We can get away with nearly anything.
"Everyone! We are getting new seats today so gather your things and stand around the room!" Ms. Fleming instructs
Me and Kelsey, my best friend, groan because we have been so lucky to have been able to sit next to each other for more than half the year. Everyone figured we wouldn't move seats again because it's been so long. Now she wants to switch us around as if we are uncomfortable where we are.
"Brandyn" she points to a desk
"Jenna"
"Payton"
"Chris"
She runs down the list, not missing a beat, she's definitely got a rhythm going on. Once she gets to the very last row, I feel my name about to be called. Who doesn't hate that moment? Legs shifting uncontrollably in anticipation and praying you didn't make the wrong choice by not clearing your throat before saying, "here."
"Macy" she points to the very back desk in the corner.
At least I can be on my phone without getting caught now...and not feel like the whole room is staring at me.
I take my seat and give a sad face to Kelsey who sits all the way in the front of the classroom.
"Wes" is the next name is she calls and points to the seat next to mine
Is this a joke? Did she just seat Wes right next to me?
This can not happen to me
Wes is like the oddest kid in school. No one can really say that he is weird because no one talks to him, everyone just sees him around. He just started here this year but he has already gained quite the reputation.
But don't get me wrong, that's not why he's weird, this is the odd part.
He wears his hood up every day. And I do mean every day. No one even knows what he looks like. The only thing that you are able to see are his lips because his head is bent so low that his eyes are hidden. Every day, we are all in trouble for wearing our hoods up in class but this wes kid wears it every day and gets by with it. Which means the teachers are in on some kind of agreement with him.
What his problem is, no one knows.
What is he hiding from? What does he have to hide? Why does he have to hide his face of all things? He can't be that ugly. I mean, is this guy like the ugliest guy to walk the earth or is he some kind of Greek god? Who knows. I'm not the only one curious about him. Wes Gregory is the talk of the day...every day. You should hear some of the wild theories floating around the school.
I watch as his hunched over body makes his way to the seat next to mine. And though he walks as so, he somehow still exudes confidence at the same time, as if he secretly likes the mystery about him.
I can't help to take notice of the way his lips are slightly raised into a small smirk.
What is he smirking for?
I can't help to think that the smirk is for me. Of course I can't see if he is looking at me or not but I feel like they are. At this point, it feels like he can hear my thoughts. It's uncomfortable when someone makes you feel so exposed without even paying you any mind.
He sinks down into his seat with his legs spread out in front of him and his body leaned back.
Despite the fact that I can't see his face, I can see the way his sweatshirt stretches across his biceps and across his large chest. I can tell how lean and built he is. I can just imagine what his muscles look like without the shirt. If he has tattoos, pecs, a six pack or even an eight pack.
I tear my eyes away from him, realizing how weird I'm being.
"You got sat next to Wes!" Kelsey giggles. "Maybe you'll be able to reveal the mystery everyone is curious about!" She puts her fist in front of her mouth acting like its a microphone. "Is Wes a sexy Greek god or a hideous ogre? Please tell, Ms. Macy"
I laugh and push her hand down. "At the rate we're going, I'm finding out nothing. He hasn't said one word to me"
"He hasn't said one word to anyone" she corrects. "Break the cycle"
"I don't think it's that easy" I say.
"Sure it is. Just push his hood out of his face." She gives a shrug as if that isn't completely going against any ethics everyone should have.
I give her a look. "No"
"All you have to do is make him love you" she instructs. "Every guy loves you, Macy. He is no different"
"Not every guy loves me" I assure her, rolling my eyes.
"Oh please." She huffs "your slutty ways just keep them calling your name" she shakes her chest a little, giving a shimmy, gaining a few stares.
I give her a shove with a giggle.
I guess I am kind of pretty. I have long blond hair and blue eyes. I have a great body I guess. My waist is small, my boobs are average and I have a good amount of hips. Not too much but just enough.
"What are we gossiping about now?" Kenny comes up to us saying
Kenny is Kelsey's boyfriend of two years now. They clearly love each other but they clearly cheat on each other too. It's very complicated. So complicated that they can't even figure out what to do besides ignore the facts in front of them.
"How Macy gets to sit next to Wes in geometry" Kelsey says
Kenny raises his eyebrows at me. "Is that right? Well all you have to do is seduce him and I'm sure you can get his hood off, macy"
My eyes widen. "You guys act like I'm some kind of slut!"
"Because you are" Kenny says as Kelsey nods in agreement.
"How many guys have I slept with?" I ask, tossing a hand in my hip
"Well there was Chris, adam, seth, Henry, Ray-"
"Okay I get it" I laugh. "I'm a slut"
"At least you admit it" Kelsey says
"I mean...why would I fuck one when I can fuck many?" I wink
"Amen!" Kelsey says
Kenny gives her warning look , as if he isn't thinking the same thing, and she kisses him response
"Act natural. Act natural" Kelsey says during lunch. "Wes is walking this way"
I nearly spit out my drink when I do in fact see him walking dangerously close to our table and wearing a very visible smirk on his face
Doing exactly as Kelsey says, I lean against the table and act like I don't see him by turning me head away.
"Oh yeah, real natural" Kenny says, throwing a fry at me. "You looked like a broken down Barbie doll."
I laugh and throw the fry back at him. "Thanks."
"That was a close one" Kelsey says. "I thought he was going to try to sit with us and confess the boner he has for Macy."
I laugh and shake my head at her
I turn my head, my hair slinked over my shoulder, and watch as Wes takes his usual seat in the back of the cafeteria alone.
I can even see the smirk he wears from here as if he knows that I'm watching.
"How is my beautiful wish to be girlfriend doing today?" Wen says, plopping down in the seat next to me and tossing his arm on the back of my chair
Wen is a friend of ours too. Ever since we met back in the seventh grade he has been head over heels for me and just can't bring himself to get over me.
I've made it clear that nothing is going to happen between us so I don't see why he can't move on.
Every holiday, birthday or event he gets me something and takes the chance of asking me to be his girlfriend. I guess rejection doesn't bother him and he is willing to take his chances because the answer is always going to be no.
"Just great" I smile
"Well I heard that you got sat next to infamous Wes in geometry." He points at me
"How does everyone already know about that?" I ask in shock
"It's the life of Macy 101" Kelsey says. "Everyone is up on it but clearly you aren't." She laughs. "I told you everyone loves you."
"It's true you know" wen nods. "Everyone talks about you all the time. Your life just seems to be way more important than anything going on in the world."
I make a face "I don't know how I feel about that to be honest."
"Well if you don't want that life then I'll take it" Kelsey offers
"Oh sure" I laugh
