They don’t know if they will be able to have a good night sleep. They aren’t sure whether it’s a good idea to stay up all night long. They still don’t seem to realise they are going to witness perhaps one of the most awaited football matches of their time, if not of all times. Two of the best national teams, chasing after their third World Cup, with maybe two of the best players, hungry of glory. Argentina vs. France, face to face again, but now on the most nerve-racking, nail-biting of the circumstances. Lionel Messi, looking for the trophy yet to conquer. Kylian Mbappe, determined to keep the crown and break even more records. Another chance to keep making history. Another chance for the Argentine team to bring a kind of happiness to the country that hasn’t been experienced for almost four decades.
It will be a final to remember, whichever team result as the winner. In the following pages, you will find three unique stories taking place in three different locations:
· In La Paz, Entre Rios, two best friends from secondary school who have been getting much closer over the few previous years before the World Cup, arrange to meet up at one of the girls’ house two hours before the match and spend the day with the whole family. The protagonists are Nicole and Barbara.
· In Santa Elena, a smaller town 41 km south from La Paz, a redhaired woman will spend her Sunday with her parents she hasn’t seen since 2019 Christmas holidays. She never saw Argentina winning the World Cup, and she wants nothing more than to experience what her parents have back when she wasn’t even born. The star of this branch is Araceli.
· And last but not least, in Mendoza City, two girls in a four-year-long relationship have never been so sure about the possibility of seeing Argentina’s captain lifting the golden trophy at the end of the 90 minutes… or 120 minutes… or the penalty shootout. It’s this year, not eight years ago or four years later. Stand up to welcome Agustina and Valentina.
