Silveny! I need your help. Sophie transmitted to the glittery alicorn mama.
HELP SOPHIE! HELP SOPHIE! HELP SOPHIE! Silveny's loud voice echoed through Sophie's mind.
Well, it's more of a favor.
HELP! FAVOR! HELP! FAVOR! HELP SOPHIE!
There's someone I want you to meet! Sophie transmitted, curling her long blond hair.
Silveny showed Sophie flashes of the new people she'd introduced her to. Amy, Councillor Bronte, and Silveny's most favorite, Keefe.
No, not them. Sophie meant someone new.
I'm sure I can get Keefe to visit too.
YAY! KEEFE VISIT! KEEFE VISIT! KEEFE VISIT!
But that means that you have to come to Havenfield. Silveny had been refusing to visit during her pregnancy, so it would be good for her to check in.
KEEFE! KEEFE! KEEFE!
I'll take that as a yes then.
VISIT! VISIT! VISIT!
Meet me at Havenfield in twenty-five minutes, Sophie transmitted, that'll give me enough time to hail Keefe.
KEEFE! Silveny repeated one last time before severing their connection.
It was always "KEEFE" this and "Keefe" that, when it came to Silveny.
. . .
Sophie pulled out her imparter. "Show me Keefe."
His face filled the screen as soon as she finished saying it.
"I knew you couldn't resist the hair, Foster." Keefe did have astonishingly good hair, but he would hold it against her for the rest of her life if she admitted it. "I can feel you blushing from all the way over here, you know."
"Where is that, by the way?" Sophie said, desperately trying to change the subject.
"I'm at Candleshade."
"What, why? I thought you were still at the Shores of Solace."
"I am. But, Fitzy and I have been searching through everything." Keefe tossed his hair back. "I know, I know, we already searched it, but I went back the other day to pick up one of my old jerkins, and I found this in one of the pockets." He held up a small gadget.
"What is it?"
"I don't know. I've only shown it to Fitz and Ro yet, but I still need to show it to the Black Swa--"
"What if it's a tracker!" Sophie interrupted. The Neverseen had a long history of hiding trackers in their clothes.
"Don't worry, it's not," he assured her, "Ro said that she'd be able to tell if it was."
"Then what is it?"
"As I said, I don't know. I'm planning on showing it to Dex, maybe his technopath skills can figure out what it is."
"Good idea. I still want to see it though. Maybe you could bring it to Havefield. Silveny's coming over in a few minutes, and I said she could see you."
"Sure, I'll never say no to Glitter Butt. But maybe it would be better to not bring the device to Silveny. If it really is a tracker, then we'd be leading the Neverseen directly to her."
"I thought you said Ro was certain it wasn't. Don't you trust her?" Ro was Keefe's ogre bodyguard.
"I do, but just to be on the safe side. . ."
"When are you ever the one to play it safe?"
"But it's Silveny."
"I know," she whispered, "we have to keep her, Greyfell, and the twins safe." Wynn and Luna were still babies, but they were also very curious too.
"I can come over in about fifteen minutes. I still need to finish up here with Fitz."
"Fitz is there?" She asked, wondering where he'd been the whole time.
"Yeah. He's looking through Mother Dearest's room." Keefe's mom, Lady Gisela, certainly didn't deserve the award for best mother. After all the talk about his legacy and almost killing him loads of times, Keefe wanted nothing to do with her. "I can call Fitz over here if you want."
"Sure. I was planning on hailing him separately but if he's already there. . ."
"FITZ! FOSTER WANTS TO TALK TO YOU!" Keefe's voice boomed from the imparter's small speakers almost to the point in which the whole sound became muted.
"Hi, Sophie!" Fritz's accented voice seemed to be a hundred decibels quieter than Keefe's ear-splitting attempts to get Fitz. "What do you need?"
"I was wondering if you'd like to come over to Havenfield to see Silveny." She turned to a whisper. "And me. . ." She hadn't seen Fitz for a couple of weeks and it almost felt like he was avoiding her.
"I'll have to see. I don't want to leave Keefe here to search by himself. . ."
"Don't worry, Fitzy, I'm going too. You won't have to leave me." Keefe jumped in, speaking in a "lovey-dovey" voice.
"Please. . .?" Sophie pleaded.
Finally, Fitz answered, "Okay. When do you want me over?"
"Silveny's coming over in a little bit, but you can come over as soon as you can."
"Okay then. I'm on my way." He handed the imparter back to Keefe and took out his pathfinder. He stepped into the light and disappeared.
"I'll be there in a little bit," Keefe added, " I need to find Ro before heading over. The last time I saw her, she was looking through my father's bedroom, so who knows what she'll find there."
"Probably nothing bad," Sophie said sarcastically.
"Suuuuuure. . ."
Sophie chuckled before adding, "See you in a little bit," and then turned off the imparter.
