Prologue

It's not an everyday thing to see a girl throwing pieces of glass at an overgrown wolf. That day, however, was not like everyday, and this wolf was not like every other wolf. This wolf was the Wolf.

"Stop that! Hey! Don't you think you could just- Oh good throw- Morana, calm down!" the Wolf yelled the last part. Luckily, he could only be hurt by a specific metal, so Morana's glass daggers didn't hurt him.

"Calm down? CALM DOWN?! HOW CAN I CALM DOWN AT A TIME LIKE THIS?!" she yelled, before hurling another dagger at a nearby tree.

"What do you mean by that?" Wolf asked.

"Don't you remember what Father said?" she asked him.

"Hmmm..." he thought about it. "Oh! I know! You're marrying a prince!"

"WAIT, REALLY?!"

"Oh, then it's not that," Wolf thought harder. "We're moving to a far away kingdom!"

"No!"

"Aliens abducted the king!"

"I wish."

"The Sun and Moon tigers quit their jobs so we're stuck in an eternal dawn!"

"Wolf, look at the sky."

"Why? Oh," Wolf looked down at his paws, ashamed.

"I'm talking about the stupid royal ball we're going to tonight," Morana told him. Wolf's ears perked up.

"A ball? Why are you angry about that? Royal parties are so. Much. Fun!" he informed her. He was ver excited to go to the party.

"I'm not angry about having to go," she explained. "I'm just mad about what it's celebrating."

Morana blew her dark hair out of her face, and plopped down on the grass. Wolf wanted to point out that the grass was wet, and that Morana was wearing a white skirt, but he decided not to. After all, he knew his friend didn't truly care about her appearance.

"What's it celebrating?" he asked her.

"An oath," she said. "Meant to separate the intelligent species."
